John Cowgill, bur 22 Mar 1768, Ripley ("John of Thornton"), m 8 Jul 1733 (as Cawgell), St Peter & St Wilfred's, Ripon, Ellen Slinger. John was described as a yeoman of Bishop Thornton in a 31 Mar 1749 purchase from John and Samuel Slinger of a cottage in Bishop Thornton.

Joseph is listed on Farnham tax records as a leaser of land through 1783.

5  Elizabeth "Betsy" Coghill b 1842, Roecliffe, m 1876, Bradford, William Hollingsworth Havelock, b ca 1845. Elizabeth was a servant in Leeds in 1861; a dressmaker in Bradford by 1871 (in the same boarding house as her future husband); and in Bradford as a brewer's wife in 1881. Her niece, dau of sister Mary, was a lodger with her in 1881.

Joseph Smith Coghill b 28 Jun 1860 (baptized as Coggill), Leeds, d 1931, m 1881, Bradford, Ellen Emmett, b ca 1860, d 1945. Joseph was lodging with his grandfather in 1871. Later in Leeds as a bookkeeper. Note: the 1911 census indicates Ellen had another child who d early.

James described as a husbandman at m(2), later as an innkeeper at the Hare & Hounds in Hunslet, and as a laborer and groom in his last years. Sarah shown as a widowed shopkeeper in Hunslet in 1841/1851. He is listed as Cogill and Coghill on census records, elsewhere as Coggill.

Robert unlocated in 1861 (Mary Ann was lodging with her brother's family); as a house painter in Leeds in 1871. Mary Ann had a son, Arthur Goodall, age 7, with her in 1861, possibly a son of Robert.

Sarah is probably the Sarah Coghill who (re)married in 1880.

Christopher Burnet Cogill b 1868, Scarborough, d 1947, m 1895, Scarborough, Sarah Ann Metcalfe, b ca 1864, d 1935. Christopher shown as Christopher Featherston, lodging with his step-father, but married as Cogill. In Lincolnshire as a blast furnace laborer in 1901.
