John Edmondson Cowgill, son of John and Ann (Geldard) Cowgill, b 28 Apr 1830, Whittington, Lancashire, d 27 Jan 1898, aged 68, Pike County, PA, m(1) 8 Sep 1857, Leeds, England, Sarah Cooke, b ca 1828, d 21 Jul 1858 (bur 23 Jul 1858, aged 30y, Thornton in Craven), England, dau of James Cooke; m(2) 29 May 1860, South Parade Chapel (Baptist) , Leeds, Margaret French, b 19 Aug 1840, Clapham, England, d after 1920. Raised a Quaker, John attended Rawdon Quaker School near Leeds 24 Aug 1840 to 22 May 1844, when he returned home with his father. He emigrated to the US ca 1865 from the Settle area; John and family were in Jersey City, NJ, in 1880. The family moved later that year to Pike Co., PA. He is listed in the 1889/90 Jersey City Directory as a laborer. John bur Rowlands Cem., Rowlands, PA. Margaret (as Margaret Mitchell) listed with dau Susannah on the 1920 census. Note: John is a 2nd cousin of Charles (Harry) Frederick Cowgill who immigrated to Canada. See his earlier line on the page for Robert Cowgill.

Blanchard, b 10 Feb 1862, PA, d 1913, PA; m(3) 10 Sep 1913, NY Co., NY, as her 2nd husband, Matilda "Tillie" (Kinnery) Cummings, b 1858, d 1920; m(4) 13 Mar 1922, Lovina A. (Swackhammer) Pierce, b 4 Dec 1860, PA, d 14 Apr 1938. Walter attended Rawdon Quaker School near Leeds, England, 3 Jan 1871 to 25 Jun 1873. He came to the USA on the steamship Adriatic in Aug 1873, settling in Pike Co., PA; Carbondale, PA; Hornellsville, Steuben Co., NY; and in Great Bend, Susquehanna Co., PA. A Quaker. Walter was a locomotive engineer on the Erie Railroad; he was cited for his action in 1898 to prevent a collision of the passenger train on which he was the fireman. Walter bur Great Bend, PA.

2 Randolph (changed to Ralph) Fritz Cowgill (adopted) b 19 Aug 1903, Long Eddy, NY, d 12 Oct 1983, m 1 May 1923, Susquehanna, PA, Louise Rosina Baumann, b 14 Dec 1905, Port Jervis, NY, d 5 Aug 1989. Ralph and Louise are bur in Mckune Cem., near Susquehanna, PA. Ralph was a locomotive engineer on the Erie Railroad.

1 Ralph Fredrick Cowgill Jr b 19 Jan 1924, PA, d 11 Dec 2009, m 4 Aug 1946, Houston, TX, Winnie Rhea Wroten, b 31 Jan 1926, Houston, TX, d 13 Jun 2014, dau of Seth and Rhea Rosenbush Wroten. Ralph was a veteran of World War II. Resided in Prospect, KY.

2 George John Cowgill b 4 Mar 1861, Earby, d 29 Oct 1916 (Blooming Grove, Pike Co. PA), m 17 Nov 1883, Providence United Methodist, Scranton, Mary Joyce (also as Joice), b Aug 1865, Ireland. Both shown as residents of Taylorville, PA, at marriage. With family in NJ in 1880 (listed in the 1891/93 Jersey City Directory as a butcher) and on the 1895 census; Mary listed as a widow in Jersey City in 1900, claimed to have been married 17 years, immigrated in 1879. She was in Newark in 1940.

4 George William Cowgill b 10 Jan 1893, NJ, d  1920s? George and sister Lillian were living with their aunt (Mary's sister?) and uncle George and Elinor (also as Ella and Elnora) Chapman from 1900 to 1920. They may have been adopted as George is listed as George Chapman Jr in 1910. He was a sheet metal laborer in Jersey City in 1920. No further information

William was killed when struck by a train as he alighted at Long Eddy, NY, from another train and stepped in front of a train going the other direction. William bur Rowlands Cem.
