What's on this page:
Notes:

Elisha Choguill b 1782, Chester Co., PA(?) (1850 & 1860 censuses have MD), d 24 Sep 1867, Morgan Co., OH, m ca 1800, Sarah Miller, b ca 1785, Chester Co., PA, d 1837/8, Jefferson Co. (?), OH, dau of John and Sarah Miller. Sarah’s sister, Nancy Ann Miller, b 11 Apr 1783, d 2 Apr 1872, lived with the family and became Elisha’s housekeeper after Sarah’s death (she was with Samuel Choguill in 1870). She is bur in Lightner Ridge Cem., Morgan Co., OH, and her name is on Elisha’s tombstone there. Is Elisha a son of John (see page 291)? Beatrice Cowgill surmised from line of Eleazer, either John or Eleazer Jr. However, Eleazer Jr probably d early, and John was in DE by 1773, dying there in 1781. His widow was still there in 1787. Genevieve Choguill thought Elisha’s father was John who d 1816 in Butler Co., OH. Family lore has Elisha descended from a Revolutionary War John who came to America with Lafayette’s army (not likely).

Elisha recorded a deed in Jefferson Co., OH, 30 Apr 1814 for a lot in Mt Pleasant on the waters of Short Creek. He bought land in Bloom Twp, Morgan Co. (deed was made in Belmont Co.), in 1836, then sold it 18 Mar 1837. In Mar 1837, he bought 75 acres in Section 6, Twp 8, Range 12, which he held for 20 years (tax receipts used Choguill, Cogle, Coquill, Cougill).
